  Countertop Refinishing in Faux Marble
Before & After

Look familiar? This ‘beautiful’ turquoise melamine countertop
had to go ….
….but it didn’t mean destroying the whole bathroom.

One thing to consider, especially if you are trying to conserve some money, is what can you live with and what you absolutely cannot. In this case, the gaudy turquoise bathroom ensemble of the 70’s was overwhelming. Keep in mind that over the past year or two, turquoise, especially in bathrooms, has made a slight comeback; this worked to Joe’s advantage when he decided to tackle this countertop refinishing project.

The only thing Joe had ever painted in his life was the outside of his grandfathers’ garage when he was a boy. He faced the situation head on and attempted a countertop makeover and…. he pulled it off!  His new white faux marble counter tops are
really impressive!

To complete his budget bathroom makeover, the hardware and accessories were updated and turquoise bathmats and towels were found at Target to finish this fun bathroom off.

Before – purposely gouged laminate counter

This piece of laminate was purposely gouged to demonstrate how painting a faux marble finish would disguise such imperfections. You will see that half of the countertop has been refinished and the other half left unfinished and notice how the veining follows the line of the gouge. Marbleizing is a beautiful faux finish and very realistic when done properly. I share with you tips and tricks I have learned over years of marbleizing and you will be able to create fantastic faux marble counter tops yourself. I recommend you practice on a piece of poster board before you begin your actual countertop refinishing but you will be astounded at how easy this faux finish
is to produce.

Get Creative with your Countertop Refinishing Project

Mary was so impressed with the faux granite counter tops in her kitchen that she decided to refinish her bathroom countertops. She had already decorated the bathroom but she said it just didn’t seem quite “pulled together”. The Formica, though in good condition, was completely the wrong color and did not compliment the rest of her décor. For her countertop refinishing project she decided to use the same colors she had used on her walls and followed the four step procedure to create a beautiful faux marble finish. Again, Mary saved several hundred dollars and she has the perfect color countertop that works well her life style.
